norelem Race Camp 2017

Second round for the Formula Student Pre-Event sponsored by norelem

From 22 - 23.06.2017 the time had come around again: The 2nd norelem Race Camp took place in Steißlingen, near Lake Constance, Germany. At this new location the static and dynamic disciplines could be carried out at the same site. Over these two days, all the participants also had the chance to exchange experiences with and compete against other teams sponsored by norelem.

Participants:

This year, fourteen of the thirty-five teams sponsored by norelem in the Formula Student competition took part in the event. There was also a highly capable mixture of jurors made up of Formula Student alumni, staff and friends of the company who were all on hand to support the team with valuable tips and tricks as well as providing constructive feedback. We were particularly delighted to see teams coming from as far away as Kiel and Graz to take part. Unfortunately, not all teams were able to participate as agreed, as their vehicles were not roadworthy due to technical problems. Other teams stayed up all night fine tuning their vehicles ready for the second day.

Day 1: The static disciplines

Alongside purely technical knowledge, other skills are also demanded of the teams in order to score points in the Formula Student series and precisely these skills were put to the test on the first day of the norelem Race Camp. After the driver’s paddock was set up and a welcome address was given by the managing director of norelem, Marcus Schneck, the static disciplines got underway. These were split into three subcategories – Engineering Design, Business Plan and Cost Report.
While the business plans were presented to a panel of four experts in the race course’s conference room, the Engineering Design and Cost Report sections were completed standing next to the vehicle. In the Business Plan section in particular, the judges saw a wide range of different presentations – there was everything from beginner’s nerves to completely confident performances, from a basic concept to fully finalised strategies. Several of the teams spoke positively about the atmosphere, comparing it to “stepping into the lion’s den” and were thus able to receive constructive feedback for the upcoming competitions. At this point, we would like to say a big thank you to our team of judges who stayed on top of the tight schedule with charm and panache and kept a clear head all the way to the end.
