Rigid couplings from norelem

Rigid couplings are often employed when two aligned shafts have to be connected to each other. They are particularly suitable for use with high torques and under severe conditions.

How rigid couplings work

A frictional shaft-hub connection ensures secure, backlash-free torque transmission even without an additional keyway. Low moments of inertia and high equilibrium guarantee excellent dynamic behaviour, even at high speeds. The couplings are basically non-wearing and maintenance-free. The possible applications range from sophisticated drive systems in general machine construction, applications in measurement and control technology, to spindle and axis drives of machine tools. Other typical applications include textile, packaging and woodworking machines, as well as industrial robots and multi-spindle drilling heads.

Advantages and properties of rigid couplings

Rigid couplings offer the mechanic the advantage of having high stability at high speeds. It is important that there are no shaft displacements or misalignments. Other advantages are:

• High torsional stiffness during dynamic load changes

• A low moment of inertia

• Conformal force transmissions

• High temperature resistance

• No loosening of screws due to vibration

• Low wear (low maintenance)

Rigid coupling from norelem withstand speeds up to 4000 rpm and can be used in temperatures of -40 °C to +175 °C. Rigid couplings are available as one-piece or two-piece versions. All norelem couplings are available in steel or stainless steel. The standard bore sizes range from Ø8 mm to Ø50 mm.
23050 is the one-piece version and 23052 the two-piece version. Both types are robust and durable. The one-piece rigid coupling completely surrounds the shaft without damaging it, providing high torsional force. The two-piece coupling can be mounted even when the ends of the shafts are not accessible (the coupling cannot be slid on from the end).

Application sectors for rigid couplings

Rigid couplings are mainly used in conveyor technology, the packaging industry, machine construction, semiconductor research or in the automotive industry. They are also used in the following sectors:

• Special machine construction

• Metrology systems

• Machine tools

• Sewage technology

• Sluice technology

• Textile industry

• Foodstuff industry
