Compression springs/helical compression springs from norelem

Compression springs or helical compression springs from norelem are made from rectangular profile chrome-silicon-steel wire. These compression springs are wound so that they react to pressure.
The helical compression springs in the norelem range have a standard diameter of 10 – 25 mm and length 25 – 305 mm. The standard lengths and diameters mean that they can be easily exchanged between different load stages. Because of the special profile of these compression springs, they can support high alternating or constant loads and can also be used in operating temperatures up to 230°C.

Range of industrial applications of compression springs

Because of their versatility, compression springs find applications in tool/machine/fixture construction.

Application examples for compression springs

Wherever machine parts have to move, that's where you will find norelem compression springs/pressure springs. norelem compression springs also find application where switching contacts are opening or closing. These compression springs can be used as a friction-fit joint in door stays or friction couplings.

Lifetime of compression springs

The lifetime of compression springs can be affected by the way the spring travel is divided between working travel and preload travel. The smaller the difference between spring travel and the unloaded length of the compression spring, the longer will be the lifetime of the spring. To maximise the lifetime, the preload on the compression springs should be as large as possible and the working travel as small as necessary.

Spring travel

Spring travel (S) is the length through which the spring is compressed when a force is applied. Spring travel is the sum of the working travel and preload travel (example calculation: difference between L0 and L).

Preload travel

So that the spring does not make noise when installed and is not loose on the component, the spring must always have a preload (VW) when installed (calculation: length L1 < length L0).

Working travel

The working travel is the stroke of the spring when the spring is installed without preload.

Unloaded length

The length of the installed spring when no force is acting on it. To extend the lifetime of compression springs when they are being produced, they are also heat-treated, irradiated, and preloaded to block height.

Block height

The block height is the height of the spring when the windings are directly beside each other.

norelem compression spring types

The compression springs are available in different loading capacities identified by different colour groups. Because they have the same length and diameter, the springs are exchangeable between the different loading capacities. On request (stating the force applied), a specific spring type can be used.
The norelem range includes the following loading capacities, thicknesses and spring types:
The lengths, diameters, force and colour of the springs comply with standard ISO 10243. This standard sets out the installed dimensions and tolerances of compression springs with rectangular cross-section.
As a manufacturer of compression springs, norelem provides the related CAD data as a download or on a USB stick for all products in the full range or at the online shop.
The range of applications in tool/machine/fixture construction is the same for all compression springs.
