norelem drive technology & drive elements

In machine construction and automation technology, many demanding power transmission and positioning tasks arise in everyday life. As a manufacturer of drive technology and drive elements, norelem offers various components in the online shop to meet the different drive technology requirements.

The product range for drive technology and drive elements in the norelem online shop consists of chains and sprockets, toothed belts, splined shafts and toothed belt pulleys, V-belts and V-belt pulleys, gear wheels, gear racks and bevel gears, worm screws and worm wheels as well as transmission boxes.

What is drive technology?

Drive technology is generally understood to mean the supply of energy to a machine and the control of the various drive elements, i.e. the generation of movement by means of power transmission.

Application sectors for drive technology

Drive technology is used in machine construction and automation technology, e.g. in converters, motors, inverter cabinet systems, transmission motors, couplings, generators, semiconductor technology, metrology machines, glass and wood processing machines and communications technology.
In addition to these fields, drive technology is also used in the aerospace industry, machine tools, packaging machines and in medical technology.

Advantages of norelem drive technology

 -  Optimum power transmission

 -  Standard component
 -  Long service life
 -  Low wear
 -  Low noise
 -  Positive power transmission
 -  Constant transmission ratios

Chain drive technology

Sprockets from norelem are robust, resistant, durable and manufactured to DIN/ISO 606 standards. The teeth are milled and inductive hardened. The keyway is exactly aligned to a tooth tip. Most of the sprockets from norelem are pre-bored (ready for use) and easy to assemble. Apart from steel sprockets norelem also have stainless steel sprockets in the online shop. These are used, amongst others in the foodstuff industries.
As accessories, single chain links for the roller chains can also be reordered any time.

Toothed belt drives

Toothed belt systems consist of a toothed belt and two or more toothed pulleys. There are diverse advantages to a toothed belt system. When transmitting high forces by high accelerations, toothed belt systems ensure exact positioning and guarantee constant synchronisation. High energy efficiency and low noise are an added plus. Not only the standard sizes are available in the norelem range, toothed belts can also be ordered by the meter to suit the application.
Classic applications can be found in machine construction, automation technology and other branches. Gantry systems of high performance lasers, pick-and place units, rotary table systems or conveyor lines are just a few practical examples.
Toothed belt drives combine the positive properties of a chain and a flat belt, and also require less maintenance. Toothed belt systems are quiet, very precise and fully slip-free. A prerequisite for this is a good coordination of the components. An additional advantage to chain drives is the high acceleration.

Gear wheels, gear racks and bevel gears

Gear wheel drives are the most commonly used type of transmission in machine construction. With the help of gear transmissions, i.e. gear wheels, gear racks and bevel gears, torques are transmitted from one shaft to another shaft at a given speed. Different gear wheel sizes can be combined. This enables a different torque and speed ratio by simply exchanging individual gears.
Compared to chain drives and belt drives, gear wheel drives from norelem offer the advantage that shorter centre distances can be realised. Significantly higher forces can also be transmitted compared to a belt drive.

Other advantages of gear wheels, ger racks and bevel gears are the slip-free and positive force transmission, the multitude of possible transmission ratios and the simple construction (low maintenance and reliability).

Gear wheel drives - Bevel gears

The conical wheels whose tips meet are mainly used for drive forms in which the shafts intersect at a certain angle (usually 90°).
It is important that the displacement of the so-called contact pattern is kept as small as possible under operating load. This is achieved by keeping the centre distance from the tooth centre to the bearing as small as possible while keeping the shaft diameter as large as possible. norelem offers bevel gears with these different ratios. The teeth are always straight and the bevel gears are made of steel. The engagement angle is 20°.

Gear wheel drives - Spur gears

Spur gears, often also called cylindrical gears, are a simple design of gear wheel. In drive technology, spur gears are always used where high peripheral forces have to be transmitted.

When used in combination with a gear rack, rotary movements can be converted to linear movements (and visa-versa). When positioning the shafts, it is important to ensure that they are installed as horizontally as possible. The shaft track should be exactly aligned to ensure a long service life of the gears. Lubrication also works best in the horizontal position. When installing, please ensure that the shafts are parallel in order to keep misalignments as low as possible. It is also important that the correct centre distance is maintained.

Worm drives / Worm gears

In mechanical engineering and toolmaking, a worm is a shaft with a one or more start screw flute. Together with the worm wheel (with helical toothing), the worm screw forms a worm drive. The axes of the worm screw and worm wheel are offset by 90°. Worm drives are suitable for translating large gear ratios into a slow speed.
Worm gears from norelem are suitable for continuous operation at high speeds and high torques.
Worm drive units are mainly used when the drive needs to be as quiet as possible. In addition, worm drives are very resilient due to their design. Efficiency is often not very high with high power ratios, since in addition to a rolling movement, a sliding movement (self-locking) is also required to drive the transmission.
Worm drives are often employed in rolling mills and presses. Worm wheels are also used in conveyor technology. Where worm wheels are used, high axial forces often occur. This is mainly due to the worm screw being rigidly mounted despite the helical gearing.
The worm wheels from norelem are bronze. The worm screw is made from case hardened and ground steel. The helical gearing is right-handed.

Transmissions - Ready-to-install worm drives

Various types of ready-to-use transmissions can also be obtained from norelem. All transmissions can be displayed in the 360° viewer. Our sales personal would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the transmissions.
The housings of the worm drive units are aluminium, the worm screws are steel and the worm wheels are a special brass alloy. The housing is anodised and the worm screw is case hardened.
The transmission is universally applicable and, due to the encapsulated housing maintenance-free. In addition, worm drives are very quiet and the power transmission is smooth. The worm drive is simply mounted using screw fasteners. The transmission is RoHs-compliant.

Transmissions - Ready-to-install bevel gear drives

There are three different types of ready-to-use bevel gear transmissions available from norelem.

 -  Bevel gearboxes with plastic housing
 -  Bevel gearboxes with aluminium housing
 -  Bevel gearboxes with die-cast zinc housing

The bevel gearbox with a plastic housing is particularly suitable for short-term mechanical drives with low speeds or for manual drives. Rotation is possible in both directions. The bevel gearbox with aluminium housing and steel bevel gears is a high-quality, universally applicable and maintenance-free gearbox. norelem has seven sizes in its range. The transmission ratio is always 1:1 and the direction of rotation is also arbitrary. The gearbox also has the advantage that it can be mounted in many different positions. The bevel gearbox with a die-cast zinc housing and steel bevel gears is highly suitable for electric motor drives. In practice, the gearbox is mainly used as an angular gearbox or as a distributor gearbox. This drive gearing is also used as attachment gearing on electric motors (e.g. for venetian blinds). All ready-to-install gearboxes from norelem are RoHs-compliant.
