Cam clamps from norelem in action
The Institute for Control Engineering of the University of Stuttgart succeeded during the whole of 2013 in installing a test station.

Sixty M6 04435-06 cam clamps were needed for the gear rack and pinion test station installation. The cam clamps are used to precisely align the drive unit's guide rails.

ISW gear rack and pinion test station
The test station was installed at the Institute for Control Engineering of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Units (ISW) to study the drive behaviour of gear rack and pinion drives. (Figure 1)
The test station is used to study new ways of controlling gear rack and pinion drives. Here the machine table is parallel driven by two synchronous motors with a helical cut drive pinion gear.

How the norelem cam clamps are used
1.) Fixing the guide carriages on the machine table
The machine table (Figure 2) travels by guide carriages that run on guide rails. A total of six guide carriages are used. To ensure the parallelism of the guide carriages three carriages each are set on a ground reference edge. The guide carriages are pressed onto the reference edge by the cam clamps.

2.) Alignment of the guide rails
The guide rails (Figure 3) are mounted on an adapter plate. They have to be aligned perfectly parallel to one another. Cam clamps from norelem are used to line the guide rail up accurately. A total of 22 cam clamps are used per guide rail.
