1. What was your motivation to participate in "Formula Student"?
We see participation in the Formula Student team as a complement to our college education. Nowhere else does one learn how to operate in a self-organised manner at this technical level. We not only deepen our technical knowledge, but learn diligent work and team coordination. This prepares us perfectly for professional life. As a little bonus major employers pay attention to us through the prestigious references of the project . Since we are all a bit motorsport-inspired and highly motivated, one hardly needs to add anything to a motor sport project.
2. What was the most exciting phase of the project?
The event phase is an experience that is unique in this form. The moment when everything comes together - when you realise that you have planned well and worked correctly and things just run automatically. Correspondingly severe is of course the disappointment when something is not working optimally, as in our test drive in Eindhoven, where we could not finish the race due to technical problems.
3. Where are the greatest challenges?
Definitely therein, to constantly coordinate and motivate the team. The whole team consists of small departments, such as technology, marketing or sponsors, which must permanently coordinate with one another. Closely behind in second place amongst the challenges is the organisation of production - finding and supervising sponsors who can produce and contribute at the targeted level. Finally, in Germany alone, there are approximately 150 and internationally 600 teams all looking for high quality sponsors.
4. Of what are you especially proud?
Of the extremely high level of performance that generally prevails. Everyone does his best and submits to the interests of the team. Thus, we were able to implement the principle "Keep it simple, make it work" at an extremely high technical level. Of course something goes once in a while wrong and alternative solutions must be found. As we have managed to build an effective team, we were able to realise all the technical solutions as planned, even if there were complications in the implementation.
5. What goals did you set for the race?
If you enrol for a race, of course you want to win. In this year we have participated in the races in Barcelona, Hockenheim and at the Red Bull Ring in Austria and completed with remarkable results, with our internal combustion vehicle PW8.14 and our electric vehicle PWe5.14. At the end of the season we have achieved 3rd place for the internal combustion vehicle and a top ten placement for the electric vehicle. Now we are starting the 2014/2015 season with optimism.
